Shop4 celebrates 21st birthday by supporting children’s charity- Mayor accepts donation to mark the occasion. Nirmal Singh Sunda migrated from India in 1964 to join his father in the UK and work towards achieving a comfortable family life. As a teenager he took a job in the cotton mills and trained at college in the evenings to become a qualified Television Engineer.
“It was challenging to juggle a job and my education, and financially support my family, but I have always understood that I must work hard to secure a prosperous future. My father served in the British Army and loved this country; I too share his passion and believe it is important to enrich Britain and support ones local community, if in a position to do so.” In 1990 Nirmal became self-employed as the Sole Trader of Shop 4 Security & Electricals Ltd, with premises on Bradford Road. Since the family run business’s modest opening 21 years ago, this public, wholesale, and retail trader has evolved massively. Mr. Singh reflects on the journey- “I remember my very first day of business; my wife and children were all very excited. I was so geared up to serve the public… only we didn’t have a single customer all day! (Fortunately my wife has the patience of a saint!) And today we have many valued customers and 6 fantastic staff members.”
Shop 4 Security & Electrical Ltd now operates from an impressive warehouse that includes a large lighting showroom, and is situated on Leeds Road. They stock thousands of products including security products, CCTV, alarms, electrical supplies, cables, and more. To mark Shop 4’s 21st year in business, Mayor Co Eric Firth of Kirklees happily accepted a cheque on behalf of the children’s hospice, Forget Me Not.
“I’m very pleased to be able to support another worthwhile charity. My wife and I chose a children’s charity because we have fondly raised 6 kids. My son Harjinder is now a Director of the business. As a family we’re all very blessed so what better way to pay thanks than by enriching our community? We’re delighted that Shop 4 is helping children with life limiting conditions and supporting their families at such a memorable time of year.”
